From 2021 to 2025, Magani.org was an ambitious non-profit pilot
project by Médecins
Sans Frontières (MSF). The project was designed as an experiment
to explore new ways to access life-saving medicines for chronic and neglected diseases.
An active pilot phase officially started in March 2025 and
concluded on November 30, 2025. This platform is no longer processing orders.
We tested an online platform where patients, with a valid prescription, could order online medicines for
non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and oncology. The model involved robust pharmacist supervision,
guarantees on medicine certification, and direct shipping to a patient's home or hospital, all while
striving for the fairest possible prices.
This project was designed as an experiment in Liberia, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zimbabwe to generate real-world
knowledge. The decision to conclude the pilot was made after identifying unexpected key structural obstacles
but it provided critical insights into the complex barriers patients face.
The problem of access to quality, fairly priced medicine in lower- and
middle-income countries remains a
fundamental challenge. MSF remains fully committed to this cause through different initiatives.

MSF wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to AMEX, our core logistics partner for this project. Their
investment, flexibility, and expertise were crucial in bringing this complex pilot to life.
